Almine Rech presents To Nowhere and Back, a captivating solo exhibition by Keita Morimoto, exploring the liminal glow of urban spaces.
Through twenty luminous oil paintings, Morimoto transforms overlooked cityscapes into cinematic dreamscapes, where light becomes both a guide and a barrier. Inspired by Tokyo’s nocturnal streets, vending machines, and fluorescent-lit storefronts, his works navigate the tension between solitude and connection, reality and memory.
Blending chiaroscuro techniques with contemporary aesthetics, Morimoto’s paintings capture fleeting moments that hover between belonging and displacement. His vision reimagines the mundane as extraordinary, inviting viewers to step into a world where artificial light reveals deeper truths.
