Though @apple co-founder Steve Jobs is often credited for the iPhone’s development, it was also the end result of advances made by thousands of “invisible” researchers at universities across the country. Corporate leaders like Jobs and Elon Musk have helmed amazing technological leaps forward, but without the hard work of thousands of unknown academics, their contributions would not be possible. Academia is the “invisible hand” that guides the innovations that touch all of our lives every day. I shared this fact in a recent conversation with Rice University President @reginald_desroches about the future of U.S. university research.
