Jane Goodall Instagram – 🌿 Then & Now: Celebrating 48 Years of the Jane Goodall Institute! 🎉
On this date in 1977, Dr. Jane Goodall founded the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) with a bold vision: to inspire hope and transform it into action on behalf of people, other animals, and the planet we share.
It all started with a commitment to continue Jane’s groundbreaking chimpanzee research in Gombe, Tanzania where she redefined our understanding of the animal kingdom through her observations of chimpanzee tool use, complex social behaviors, and deep emotional connections.
Now JGI has grown into a network of 25 global chapters, all working to fulfill Jane’s vision:
🔍 Sustaining the longest-running wild chimpanzee study in Gombe — set to celebrate 65 years this summer
🐵 Providing best-in-class wildlife rehabilitation at two sanctuaries, home to nearly 200 rescued chimpanzees and other wildlife
🤝 Championing community-led conservation through our signature Tacare approach, which collaborates directly with local communities to find solutions to conservation challenges
🌱 Inspiring the next generation of changemakers through our youth engagement program Roots and Shoots, now active in 75 countries and counting
From Gombe to the world, our mission continues to grow, but none of this would be possible without YOU — our dedicated supporters, partners, and changemakers. 💚
Here’s to the past, present, and future of JGI! 🎂🐵🌱
*JGI does not endorse handling or close proximity to wildlife. This represents a sanctuary setting with trained professionals.*
