Early in my career I got caught up in the “boss babe” “hustle hard” and really any other catchy phrases that encouraged a lifestyle of reckless burnout and un-attainable goals mentality. I said yes to pretty much anything I was asked to do and didn’t feel happy unless I was “being productive” which translated to constant movement and fatigue. I’ve been in “detox” since I had my first daughter Hazel and it’s a constant struggle between wanting to “do it all” and just sitting still and enjoying the moment. And I fail. Regularly. Now as a mother of two little girls, at 40 years old, it occurred to me that I really don’t want to pass this “gene” on to them. After all, it’s exhausting! So here’s a few things I’ve been focusing on in an effort to break the cycle: * Intentionality around what projects I say “yes” to and really making sure I’m aligning my work time with what makes me happy. * Prioritizing sleep over pretty much everything else. * Making sure I’m setting realistic goals – especially when it comes to my body. I’m a breastfeeding mom that had a baby 6 months ago…I’m trying to give myself lots of grace. * Letting go of the “it has to be done right now” mentality has been huge for me. I’m still organized and I still push hard, but nothing like I used to. And I know I’m not alone! Anybody else wanna share? What if it doesn’t work out? What if everyone sees me fail? What if everything goes wrong and I have to give up on something I’ve worked so hard on? It’s easy to fall into the trap of self-doubt when big opportunities come up. But remember, trying something new is never easy and anything that’s worthwhile is going to be HARD. It’s been over 10 years since I left the corporate world and built a business of my own.
