Kara Keough Instagram – Huge day in the Bosworth house (but mainly in my Keough bones): the First Tee-Ball Game. Last year, when McCoy would have been eligible to start tee-ball, I instead watched all my friends take their little ball-cap covered boys to play their first season together… and McCoy’s absence felt so huge. He shoulda been out there, on that team, with all his buddies, and I should have been watching him from the stands. Instead, I cried in bed and watched the social media highlights of that tee-ball team, and it felt like losing him all over again. This year, when Vaughn took the field for his first game, I could feel his big brother and Grandpa Matt there with us. McCoy’s little brother smiled the ENTIRE game and my heart felt full to the fucking brim. I laughed and screamed and cheered from right behind my son in the field and beside the plate as “Coach Mama.” A therapist asked me once where I “spend time” with my dad after his death, and my answer was this: at the ballpark. So today, at the ballpark, I swear I could hear my dad laughing his ass off at the chaos of me coaching three year olds playing his treasured sport.
