Laura Tobin Instagram – ⏰ Dooms day!
The clock is a symbol that represents the likelihood of human global catastrophe.
When the clock strikes midnight we reach ‘human extinction’
The doomsday Clock was set to 89 seconds to midnight, (on 29th January) the closest ever to midnight, one second closer than last year (90 seconds)
who?
The Doomsday Clock’s time is set by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists’ Science and Security Board (SASB) in consultation with its Board of Sponsors, which includes nine Nobel Laureates.
Why?
It’s down to a number of factors including nuclear weapons, climate crisis, artificial intelligence, infectious diseases, and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
“The purpose of the Doomsday Clock is to start a global conversation about the very real existential threats that keep the world’s top scientists awake at night”
