Never mind what it says about #radicalizing, this helped teach me that I was part of a larger world, and that my place in it was just as important and just as valuable as anyone else’s. What’s so radical about that?? This is just one of so many #critical #tvmoments from my youth. Along with #MrRogers, #zoom, #electriccompany with the great @morganfreeman, and many other programs I watched & loved. I learned so much, and still do, from #publictelevision. #PBS is the only way the #public has a #share in #broadcasttelevision. The money @pbs receives from the public and private #donors and #grants FAR EXCEEDS the amount it receives from the government. But EVEN THAT GOVERNMENT MONEY is THE AMERICAN PEOPLES MONEY. Our people deserve a broadcast channel that is objectively #educational, that aims to help children #learn instead of buy; that seeks to #inform instead of #convince, that serves as a place where the #publicgood outweighs the public demand. I support @pbs as well as my local affiliates whenever I can. They’re not hurting ANYBODY. FFS, it’s the most innocuous television there is. And anyone who calls @newshour #liberal has never had to sit through one of #DavidBrooks’ conservative rationalizations. @pbs is not the enemy. Media solely for profit, propaganda, and pundits is not media I want.
