Naima Mora

Naima Mora Instagram – I’m thrilled to share that the National Gallery of Art @ngadc contracted me to be featured in the video essay, Print Like a Great: Elizabeth Catlett. In this project, I created a portrait of Catlett’s granddaughter, Model, Actor and Author Naima Mora @naimamora, to demonstrate the relief printmaking process in honor of the work and legacy of Elizabeth Catlett. Following the journey of Catlett’s life, I was able to travel to Mexico City and Cuernavaca, Mexico to visit the Catlett-Mora Estate and learn more about her life and the broader history of printmaking in Mexico.

This project was orchestrated in conjunction with the NGA’s installment of the traveling exhibition, Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies. As an added bonus to what has been a life-changing experience, my woodcut, Dahlias for Naima, will be on display in the exhibition, accompanied by a time-lapse video of my process. The exhibit opens THIS WEEKEND (March 9th) and runs through July 6, 2025.

On April 5th, I’ll be in the gallery for a brief Q&A about Dahlias for Niama at 1:30 pm.

Click the link in my bio to watch the full time lapse video which can be found on the NGA’s YouTube channel!

I feel so blessed to have been asked to go on this journey and I’ll share more about this extraordinary experience over the coming weeks. Special thanks to the NGA film and production teams and to Naima for being such a vital part of this process!
