Nina Williams Instagram – First Ascent of EVA – Every Vocal Animal (V9) 🐺 in the Buttermilks. Quin showed me this massive boulder last May, I roped in @andyliu84, and we got to work bringing some lines to life.
EVA has three distinct cruxes: some burly opening moves, a committing wide-shoulder reach at the midpoint, and an equally committing stand into a small undercling 3/4 of the way up. The bottom is steep, a nice change from Bishop’s technical fare, but the upper shield is that classic bullet Bishop stone (think Checkerboard or Maze of Death).
This climb has all my favorite things – jugs, crimps, heel hooks, a kneebar. Places to rest & cruxes that demand full commitment – physical and mental certainty. Good stone and great views. Oh and it’s tall 😉
The weeks spent scoping, cleaning, brushing, and climbing on EVA with Quin & Andy have been a top highlight of the season. Grateful for the support and friendships that made this line a reality 🥲 Go team!
