Noa Tishby Instagram – Last month, wildfires tore through Los Angeles neighborhoods, destroying everything in its path. I recently visited the Pacific Palisades to witness firsthand some of the destruction. It was absolutely heartbreaking.
While there, I spoke with Rabbi Daniel at the Pacific Palisades synagogue and he told me about the miracle of how their synagogue survived and that the congregants cried and said, “at least our spiritual home survived.”
I evacuated during the fires and had time to grab some sentimental items, but most people didn’t. They lost everything. That’s why I’m helping launch ‘Heart & Hamsa,’ a project that allows the Jewish community to donate meaningful Judaica to those who need it most.
Being able to offer something special from our lives — a menorah, a kiddush cup, a mezuzah — so that someone can rebuild their own collection and celebrate the Jewish holidays with stories and meaning is what being part of Jewish peoplehood is all about. This is exactly the kind of initiative that helps our heritage survive.
