From the 1980s I’ve been vocal about the need for women rights. India has represented a highly patriarchal society .. sati, dowry, child marriage, educational restrictions…. and then later workplace inequality & prejudice, balancing work with demands of being the bahu at home, glass ceilings .. lists go on.
My grandmother #fredabedi , mom #protimabedi , me and even my daughter @alayaf have stood up to all challenges to live life on our own terms.
From my twenties… ive been championing womens rights, pushing on every public and media platform to have laws change and to protect and empower women , to get them educated..
And today… I’ve crossed the half century mark …. and I’m so grateful for all the countless voices, women & men, who have been instrumental in positive change.
Ironically, 5 years ago i championed mens rights as women are now misusing laws created to enable, protect and empower women.
I believe in an equal world and i believe in the power of feminine consciousness which includes compassion, love, mindfulness, nurturing, gentleness, inner strength and creativity
Feminine consciousness resides in each of us, irrespective of gender. Yin- yang. Shiv-Shakti
Being a woman is my strength, not a weakness.
On womens day I’d like to leave you with a thought and a question…
No one is immortal and barely a handful get to stay on the planet even a 100 years.
With so many years have behind us and a questionable number of GOOD years ahead of us, it seems ridiculous to not want the best for ourselves & each other.
SO, How are we making the world a better place for all while we are residents?
If you have ONE feminine quality to make your primary focus to bring value to a short journey called life… what would it be?
Joy? Calm? Kindness? Curiosity? Compassion? Creativity? …. Something else?
Be it & Spread it !!!
