july 19, exactly two months ago today, i tore both my ACL and medial meniscus. i had done a back aerial and once i landed on my right leg, my knee had completely inverted on heavy impact. once it happened i fell to the floor and just laid there. i didnt cry or yell, but i laid on the ground breathing extremely hard. when people ran over to see what was wrong, they helped me sit up and calm down. at first, i really thought that i was going to be okay and at worst it would just be a sprain. the following weeks after, i made sure to rest and elevate in hope that it was going to get better. however, things weren’t looking too good.my swelling was not going down, i couldn’t straighten my leg, and i was in constant pain. the first visit with the doctor informed me that there was a possibility that my acl had torn, but to take that info with a grain of salt. the doctor had told me that i needed an mri to get a clear answer as to what was wrong. as i waited for the results, i felt like my knee was getting better. i was able to put pressure on it, and i had really thought that nothing severe was wrong with it. but when my mom had told me the news of tearing not only my acl, but also my meniscus i immediately broke down. in that moment it felt as though my world had crashed. dance is the love of my life, and it is the one thing that makes me feel something. all of my dreams of going away to college for dance, performing, and moving forward in my career felt like they were thrown out the window. i couldn’t imagine the thought of going through surgery, completely retraining my leg to function, and not being able to dance for 9 months.as i waited for surgery, i worked on pre-op training all on my own to be able to bend my knee 120 degrees again as well as straightening it. over the course of time, i was walking again and gained back most of my flexion in my leg, but it was incredibly painful. today i had my surgery, and i was scared to death.but i woke of from the operation and was told that my surgery went extremely well. now i am on the road to recovery and trying to keep a positive outlook. God is good and things will get better❤️🩹
