🗣️ Carrie Mae Weems’ installation The Shape of Things employs a cyclorama format to immerse viewers in the complex history of racial injustice. Projected in a cylindrical structure, this 40-minute video installation is organized into seven parts, using a mix of found footage, documentary elements, choreographed scenes, and earlier works. Each part explores themes like racial violence, memory, and resilience, beginning with visual representations of history, including 19th-century cycloramas and ending with Weems herself, symbolizing hope amid adversity. Accompanying the installation are large-scale photographs from her Painting the Town series, reflecting on the erasure of anti-racist graffiti in Portland, Oregon.
