Christy Turlington Instagram – This past Monday was incredibly meaningful. I was deeply moved to be recognized at @everymomcounts’ 15th Anniversary Celebration. 🧡
Fifteen years ago, I founded Every Mother Counts after experiencing a childbirth complication after the birth of my first child that could have cost me my life. That experience opened my eyes to the global crisis of maternal mortality and the reality that hundreds of thousands of women—especially those living in poverty and women of color—were dying every year from preventable causes.
What started as a personal story became a shared mission. Since then, we’ve invested more than $48 million in community-based programs, advocacy, and awareness efforts that have reached nearly 2 million mothers, families, and providers around the world.
The event was filled with so many special moments that reminded me of the power of community. We were honored to have the amazing @busyphilipps as our emcee, and to enjoy stunning performances by @flordetoloache and @catpowerofficial.
We also celebrated some truly inspiring individuals, including our incredible “Mother of the Year” honorees: Sandra Brunson, @alysiamontano, and @chelseaclinton. We heard powerful comments from our longtime grantee partner @iamjenniejoseph, whose work has been instrumental in advancing maternal health.
And, of course, it was a moment of deep personal reflection for me when my 21-year-old daughter @graciebrns introduced a special celebration of my journey and the work of Every Mother Counts.
