Emma Dabiri Instagram – I’m actually tearing up with joy and wonder writing this. Huge life transitions have occurred lately and I have had this sense that everything is falling into place. In Yoruba beliefs when your decisions start to align with your ori (path or fate) this is what is supposed to happen.
Today I noticed that the tree in my front garden was in full and glorious bloom, I couldn’t resist pausing in my hurry, to walk over, and I thought to myself I really must find out what it’s called. I took a photo and popped it into a plant identifier, imagine my shock when I learnt that not only was it Hawthorn but that hawthorn holds special significance in the Irish festival of Bealtaine WHICH IS TODAY the first of May (which I was going to make a post about anyway)
I read that the hawthorn tree is often associated with fairies, fertility, and protection, particularly in Celtic cultures. It’s considered a sacred tree, a gateway to the Otherworld, and the home of the fairy folk. Now you know I’m obsessed with parallel universes and multiverses, their existence in Yoruba Irish mythology and their relationship to quantum physics. For the tree to communicate with me TODAY on its day just feels very profound and beautiful. For it to be a tree that is a symbol of protection, love, and fertility, is associated with heart medicine and strongly associated with May Day the ancient festival of Beltane and the celebration of spring and fertility is just 🤯. I designed a Claddagh collection last year obviously featuring love hearts, I wear hearts on my fingers and hearts on my ears, I have multiple heart tattoos on my body. I also decided today was the day to wear a fairy princess dress (BEFORE) I’d made this discovery AND I’d packed my bag with magical things like Florida water soap and cosmic flower essence to invoke connection to the cosmos and magic sense of purpose.
