It won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1975, making it the first and still one of the very few African or Arab films to achieve this honor. The film traces the roots of the Algerian War of Independence through the life of a peasant, symbolizing the awakening of national consciousness. He passed away yesterday RIP 1934-2025 in Algiers at 95 yers old. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Algerian Embassy for the kind invitation and for making me a part of such a beautiful and enriching experience.
