Li Jun Li Instagram – i saw 35mms screenings of Barry Lyndon and the Godfather and i was taught why we buy popcorn to sit down in a cave and watch the shadows play.
@brianbartolini and @addp slowed the tempo of sight with their use of light and made a 2hr movie such a feast for the eyes. it’s not just about strain or magnitude, watching so much brightness for so long. it’s about what our eyes are used to and what we really want to look at. chiaroscuro, painting by candle light, fire lit skin, shadows dancing. what our eyes were built to look at. a kind of darkness turns a different part of our brain on, turns up the image making part, and becomes both a space of comfort and calm as well as mystery. like looking out a back porch into the forest thinking the trees are quiet, and seconds later, the trees are alive.
