Last year, I got to give you your flowers after all these years. Got to tell you how inspirational you were to me and what you meant to me as a teen and young woman and You told me you were proud of me 😭🥺🫶🏽. We had the greatest convo! You were THAT GYRL!!!!!! Like, Who didn’t want to be like you?? 😫🥰 The first black young woman of our generation, that we saw ourselves in, hosting on a show! You were relatable in so many ways and showed us what being professional, classy, fun and sexy with an around the way girl vibe looked like! Meeting you on Teen Summit in 1996 and then becoming peers years later in NYC was everything to me! You were the big sister we all wanted and needed! THANK YOU! The advice you always gave me on the industry, hair care, guys, friendship, self importance, being authentic to yourself but growing… everything was invaluable!! No matter what stage in my life I was at… whether a bartender, working at a record label, publicist, makeup artist lol.. working or non working actor…. You didn’t switch up when others did , whether I was up or down. You always spoke great things onto me! The way you hugged and loved on me every time you saw me anywhere, always made me feel seen and respected! Then reconnecting on social media and talking about the old days was therapeutic & cathartic! Your passion to build, educate, learn, and love on other black women as sisters was beautiful! You were beautiful in every way! Love you as a fan, peer, friend, sister of the Earth. I struggle with the term “Rest in Peace” when someone has left us way too soon and loved ones are grieving… and Im heartbroken your journey had pain. I hope you knew what your impact on our culture was and that you left a beautiful legacy! My biggest condolences to your son, closest friends and family!
