Well, it’s my birthday. Life is most definitely not how I imagined it in literally every way possible. But if I’ve learned anything over these years it’s that life is filled with highs and lows and you gotta take them as they come. Thankful for all of these high moments the last couple weeks. As they say, there’s only one way out…and these Madonna arms aren’t gonna be Instagram-worthy for long – and Franklin is the cutest travel partner ever. Here’s to another year!

This was 5. Franklin, you’re not yet a big kid but oh how you want to be. You still talk to your “moon friend” as it follows us on our night drives home, you ask to sleep in my bed but “only for tonight!” nightly, you have to hug me multiple times before leaving for school, you name all your stuffies and make sure the ones you aren’t sleeping with are happy on the floor, you love playing “restaurant” while we make breakfast and still have full conversations with the dogs. Everyday there are small moments I notice this stage of your life leaving …you hold my hand less, you try and find even the slightest wiggle in your baby teeth, you want to try a big kid sleepover, you’re learning to read and try and sound out words I spell aloud to avoid you overhearing – and as wistful as that makes me, learning who you are as you grow is equally as exciting. Ive learned how important your friends are to you, that you’re social and musical, confident and adventurous, you love animals, nature, the ocean and crystals. You do hard things even when you don’t want to. To me, you are the most so special boy in the world…and now I know I have a travel companion for life…and someone who’ll ride rollercoasters even if he doesn’t want to just so I won’t have to ride them alone. I love you Franklin Day. Happy birthday!
