notes on the @saintheron stuuu for @flos iconsss -i first prototyped the saint heron small matter modular sofa 3 years ago in microsuede. each piece is modular, & can b configured more than 30 ways, using magnets. the idea is that ppl can cop each piece individually, configure to the shape they desire, & the collection grows as they/the space/budget grows really looking to perfect her so she’s out to y’all sooon -vry proud of the saint heron small matter glass floating desk. i thought a lot about the desk as a creative monument and revisited a lot of images of elsa peretti & lella vignelli at their desk, trying to envision the desk that would best represent me in 50 years – the Ekoi collection is growing ! no other sculptures make me feel more protected & more seen i first came across the Ekoi reading a story on playwright Lynn Nottage’s home, & feel so grateful to the Ejagham people for being so connected to the source through their vision & craftsmanship when ppl enter the saint heron studio I want it to be clearr that although we share space and build w/ others, that this is a space made for black women by black women. the Ekoi proclaim that everyday. -my friend Virgil’s spirit shines upon us as a creative northern star in the most Virgil way ever, through his chromed out 1 of 1 Wandanlage Braun stereo system. Virgil was one of the few black men icon artist & creators who lifted my work out loud, (and not just quietly in my DM’s, or when i saw my work reflected in theirs) i spoke w my friends about the vastly different landscape of the the pre/post Virgil world of design, art, & architecture, & valued all the ways he lifted us within those conversations. SH is opening the space to students to come & study this artifact, & see themselves through his marvelous design. (thank you Shannon for your kindness & generosity from the bottom of my heart) -the saint heron library lives on! it’s been such a joy to share these sacred works with u guys knowing so very few copies of some of these titles exist. s/o to the SH community for moving w so much honor and always sending them backk ! we’re expanding this year in ways I’m stoked to share soon all love, S
