Every year I get to celebrate/start another year around the sun on the #frenchriviera wearing gorgeous couture gowns and watching the best films of the year… I feel so lucky!!!! But… don’t get me wrong! Just because I feel lucky doesn’t mean I forget what it took to get there!!
Did you know I studied every day starting 20 years ago! I made movies in almost every continent on earth. I worked in film distribution when I was 19-23… and now again… Most people don’t see the hard work and dedication that goes into it. They just see the glittery dress and think, she must be blessed for some reason. No, not really… I worked in the most unglamorous conditions. I would clean The Actors Studio bathrooms and work in the office to watch the greatest actors train, before I became a member myself. I used to do work trade to learn Shakespeare and would clean my acting coaches apartment in exchange for discussions on the work. When I was first learning about everything I was blown away and so enthralled by this discovery I had made. I felt I learned a secret!! My first coach once told me, and it stuck with me forever, “the amount of work you put in will directly reflect in the amount of work you get in the field. Anytime you show up for yourself, that’s money in the piggy!!! “ He was right! His name is @themontaukgroup he gave me the greatest gift!!!! To pass the torch. When I was 19 I was teaching his sensory class!
@festivaldecannes is the most exciting place for filmmakers, and every year my goals are to get back there with more exciting creativity. I’ve had two movies screen in Cannes so far… I will never stop striving to make great work…. And when I can’t breath in my couture corset, I will remember… this is just what I wanted!!! 😉
