Asia Ortega Instagram – Watching Asia dance, tears rolled my cheeks. I looked around to see the many women silently crying, each one of them fixated on her and living through her. As women, we know why Asia stirs these emotions. It’s because every facet of her being and art form represents the freedom our inner child had but lost. Messy, bold and fierce, she moves and stomps and laughs and plays. And we remember the feeling of freedom that is stolen from every young girl at some point by the societal view of what a woman should be. Reserved, neat, pretty. In a time that botox before and after photos are rammed down our throat to the point of suffocation, she provokes the female gaze, reminding us that wrinkles on our forehead are needed to express the spectrum of human emotions, that our humble breasts can bounce without been squashed together and propped up with a wire, that our sweaty messy hair is a sign we’re living. Life is so much more engaging when we stop trying to be someone else and we offer our authentic, unfiltered self. This is personified art and it’s beautiful.
