Chandini Chowdary Instagram – A stray mother dog gave birth to 8 tiny pups. The first time I saw them, couple of months ago they were malnourished, fragile, and clearly neglected. I started feeding them, hoping it would help. But within days, some pups showed signs of illness, while others were hit by passing vehicles. I took them to the vet, got them treated, and brought them back. But every day, I’d return to find another lifeless body on the road. Sometimes two or three in a day. I tried blocking off the area, but cars still sped through. The worst was when the heat melted the bodies. I couldn’t even move them. I’d cover them with sand so the mother and surviving pups wouldn’t have to see.
Eventually, only two were left, both extremely ill, with swollen throats and high fevers. I knew I had to act fast. A nearby under-construction building let me keep them safely inside while I arranged treatment. My vet, Harish, visited daily. The mother was terrified, especially when she heard her babies cry during treatment, but she trusted me. She never lashed out, just watched, heartbroken.
Then one of the pups started losing its vision. There was no facility in Vizag to run proper diagnostics, but Harish, through his experience, figured out a treatment plan with drops and meds. We followed it religiously.
And slowly, they started recovering. The swelling reduced. Sight returned. Strength came back.
Today, those two pups are thriving. They’ve learned to avoid traffic. The building workers who once just gave them shelter now feed and protect them like family. And the mother? She watches them with quiet pride.
The pups are completely vaccinated now.
From eight to two, from despair to healing, this journey broke me in parts but filled me with hope too.
