Emma Lahana Instagram – The day after thanksgiving on a family walk we were charged by a pitbull (extra terrifying when you have your 6 month old baby with you). The pitbull relentlessly mauled my tiny 8 pound Bowie. We fought that dog off for what felt like forever.
Bowie’s skull, jaw and palate were so mangled we weren’t even given a number of how many fractures he had. In multiple places his brain was within a centimeter of not making it.
If we didn’t live in driving distance from UC Davis – the best veterinary school in the world – the outcome would be very different.
Many surgeries later… feeding tubes, countless meds, lots of TLC… we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Bowie had had a rough start when I rescued him and I am so grateful his story didn’t end in the jaws of that dog.
He’s been by my side for almost a decade, like a four legged little shadow.
There are no words that can capture my love and gratitude for everyone at UC Davis. Absolute miracle workers.
