1) It’ll make you laugh and cry in the best way. I’ve watched it three times and I still laugh out loud and shed tears. It’s giving DEPTH!
2) Complex, nuanced South Asian characters that we need more of!! The parents in this film are so layered in such a real way. I see so much of my parents in them and it punches me in the heart. It’s giving NON-STEREOTYPE.
3) Bollywood vibes! It’s not everyday you can walk into a theatre in North America to watch a rom com and have it reference the classics. DDLJ is in the foundation of the movie!! It’s giving SRK!
4) You want more movies with representation? With South Asians? That make you feel seen? That the younger generation can grow up on? Then SHOW UP! Every single odd is stacked against us, so we simply have to show up for the community. It’s giving… out with community competition and in with community support!
5) The hilarious @zarnagarg make her feature debut! And it’s giving COMEDIC GOLD.
And on a personal note, my queer little heart gets healed a little more every time I see this film. I wish so badly I had this when I was growing up. I’m so grateful to the entire cast and crew for paving the path and fighting the good fight. I know firsthand that it is NOT easy. Thank you for your work 💜
