I had once asked him if he always knew he wanted to be a dad. He paused merely a second, then warmly said,
“Yes. I just knew I wanted somewhere to belong.”
That always stuck with me.
He belonged.
I wrote this poem for him minutes after we dispersed his ashes.
Love you from the deepest fibers of my soul, sweetest papá.
You continue to impress, teach, and guide me even in your physical absence.
Gonna pour a glass of Blue Label for the both of us tonight.
Happy Father’s Day to all the girl dads out there, living and dead.
You’re so important. Our gratitude and love for you is immeasurable.
