While the Supreme Court has revised its earlier heartless and horrifying stance on community dogs in Delhi, what remains is a dangerously vague portion that leaves too much room for cruelty cloaked in legality.
The revised order now states that only aggressive or rabid dogs will be kept in shelters, while others will be vaccinated and returned to their original locations. On paper, this may seem like a step toward justice—but will this really happen?
Or will the term “aggressive” become a convenient excuse to round up and remove harmless dogs, denying them their right to live freely in the only homes they’ve ever known? Will “shelters” become a euphemism for slow suffering behind closed doors? ( like ROHINI SHELTER )
Compassion must not be conditional. Vagueness must not be a VEIL for violence. We need clear, accountable, and humane implementation. Because every community dog is a life, not a nuisance.
Delhi, and the rest of India, must choose empathy over expediency—every single time.
