GS25🇳🇬

It was an absolute pleasure attend the GS 25 as a speaker with my family @hellowrthy and the @tosfoundationng

It is almost impossible to summarize the important quality conversations that were had but the two key points I want everyone seeing this post to know are :

1. The Reserved Seats for women bill. This bill will be put to a vote in about 40 days. We need to support it. We currently have less than 4% of women serving. Globally, we’re at the bottom of the ranking for women inclusion in our National Assembly.
We account for at least 50% of the population, it makes sense that we be part of the decision making processes that concern us and the nation at large.

2. Family planning! Nigerias population is projected to be the third largest globally by 2050. I don’t know about you but that sounds scary to me. Imagine a Nigeria with more people to feed, account for economically and otherwise. Can we survive that?
We need to prioritize family planning in our homes and communities. Our maternal death rate accounts for 30% of the global maternal death rate. Our women are dying and we need to stop this. A woman is not as risk of dying from pregnancy related complications if she isn’t pregnant.
We need to give our young girls and boys proper sexual education and teach them body autonomy. Teach our women the family planning way of spacing out their kids and preventing pregnancy. Enable her be economically empowered with her time, energy and resources to take care of herself and family.

It was truly beautiful to listen in on these conversations and be a part of them. I am SO proud of Nigerian women and I am elated and hopeful for what is to come for us. 🇳🇬❤️ | Posted on 05/Sep/2025 16:27:52
