Michele Selene Ang Instagram – Playing Kisa in Empty Ride has been my toughest lesson, and greatest joy. I learn the most about acting through performing on stage, even though I am often intimidated by it.
There’s a ritualistic, immersive quality to theater – and a sort of raw tension – that I constantly seek. It is, all at once, a visceral, powerful, vulnerable experience that I’m still chasing after, figuring out.
I don’t have my own words to describe this process, so I will use a passage from “An Actor Adrift.”
“One day Yoshi told me of the saying of an old Kabuki actor: I can teach a young actor the movement of how to point to the moon. But from his finger-tip to the moon, that’s the actor’s responsibility.
And Yoshi added: When I act, what matters is not whether my gesture is beautiful. For me, there is only one question. Did the audience see the moon?”
