Ganesh Chaturthi is a major Hindu festival celebrated across India, especially in Maharashtra, to mark the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and prosperity. The ten-day festival begins on the fourth day of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada (August/September) and features the installation of clay Ganesha idols in homes and public pandals, daily prayers, and the offering of sweets, most notably modaks.
The festivities conclude with the Ganesh Visarjan—the immersion of the idols in water bodies—symbolizing the cycle of creation and new beginnings.
