Yes, the young beautiful boy, you see on the right, yeah, that’s Sumit. Yesterday, I received heartbreaking news my friend Sumit, one of my first college friends from Amity back in 2013, is no longer with us. He passed away in 2022, silently battling depression brought on by joblessness and isolation. None of us knew what he was going through until now.
It’s devastating to think that we weren’t there to hear him out, to remind him that a job doesn’t define his worth, or to simply let him know that he mattered. We lost touch, like so many of us do over time, and now we’re left with memories and regret.
This loss is a harsh reminder that we must stay connected not just for the good times, but to check in when things are tough. Mental health isn’t defined by salaries, achievements, or social media updates. It’s defined by how we feel, and how supported we are.
So let’s change that. Let’s check in. Let’s reach out. Let’s be present. Not after someone is gone but while they’re still here.
