Astronauts float in space not because there’s no gravity, but because they’re in constant free fall around Earth. Gravity is still strong up there about 90% as strong as on the surface but the spacecraft is moving so fast sideways (around 17,500 mph) that as it falls, it keeps missing Earth. Everything inside is falling at the same rate, so there’s no force pushing up on them like the ground does here making them feel weightless.
