Stephanie Allynne Instagram – David Lynch is one of those people who has had a profound influence on my life. Aside from loving his work, his insights play in my head on almost a daily basis. I’ve always related to his obsession with light, particularly in Los Angeles. He wrote and talked a lot about the bright light here and whenever I see that piercing light I think of him. When I had the opportunity to work with him on the new Twin Peaks he asked me, “Champ, do you want the beauty light or the other light?” I had a small role on that and we shot my scenes in two different lighting. I have never shot a scene in one lighting and then reset to do the whole scene again in another light (spoiler: if you have seen the show, he did not use the beauty light!) A few years ago Tig and I got trained in Transcendental Meditation and now every time I meditate I think of him and his beautiful insights on the connection between meditation and ideas. Highly recommend his book, “Catching the Big Fish.” I also heard someone ask him why his movies don’t make sense and his response was, “I think people think my movies don’t make sense but the more they think about them the more they start to make a lot of sense. And, conversely, maybe when you see a big studio action movie you think it makes sense but the more you think about it the more you go, “Well that doesn’t make any sense.” I now often watch movies through that lens.
