Susan Wokoma Instagram – Was going to wait and share this news once official photos started circulating but – full transparency – I’ve been spent today doom scrolling and watching all the far right Nazi uprisings all over the world has put me in an all too frequent state of fear and numbness.
I’m really scared.
Which is why celebrations like @s.o.u.l.fest and @americanblackfilmfestival are actually more vital than ever before.
Despite all the challenges and fears we as black people face, there we were last night, daring to dream, write, create and share our stories. Literally ancient tings.
Thank you @1yarei @akuatbbgyamfi @weareparable and @americanblackfilmfestival for giving us the space to be artists. To be soft as well as strong and all the exciting complexities within that that makes great films.
I wrote this script in 2 days for the little complex odd girl who was so so misunderstood. I will always write for you.
Congratulations to all the nominees and winners. I don’t actually know if I’ll be ok but I know I’m not alone.
