Angela Lindvall Instagram – Recently, I’ve been very moved by this @theofficialsting STING song. A song about a “card player, a gambler who gambles not to win but to try and figure out something; to figure out some kind of mystical logic in luck, or chance; some kind of scientific, almost religious law. So this guy’s a philosopher, he’s not playing for respect, and he’s not playing for money, he’s just trying to figure out the law – there has to be some logic to it. He’s a poker player, so it’s not easy for him to express his emotions; in fact, he doesn’t express anything, he has a mask, and it’s just one mask, and it never changes.
In this life, we often get caught up in the noise—the politics, the arguments, the endless divisions. We draw lines, build walls, and convince ourselves that our beliefs define us more than our shared humanity. But so often, the real problem isn’t that we disagree—it’s that we’re not truly hearing each other.
We speak, but we don’t listen. We react, but we don’t understand. We assume the worst in those who see the world differently, forgetting that beneath every belief is a story, a wound, a hope. And so, we divide—not because we are so different, but because we refuse to see the ways we are the same.
But what if we took a step back? What if we saw beyond the surface—beyond the masks we wear, beyond the sides we take—and recognized that, at our core, we are all searching for the same things? Love. Understanding. Connection.
The truth is, life is precious. Too fleeting to be wagered on pride and fear. What if, instead of playing to win, we chose to listen? Instead of proving ourselves right, we opened our hearts to something greater?
Because the shape of my heart, the shape of yours—they are not so different.
If we remember that, maybe we all win.
