As we celebrate this eloquent pastor/civil rights leader, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, I want to share this speech and encourage you to ask yourself: what is in your life’s blueprint?
Remember he was martyred. He stood up for poor people, against war, advocated for pan-africanism, questioned capitalism, fought relentlessly against racism (even though racist try to misuse his words to grossly justify not redressing wrongs with a mischerization of color blindness).
He was a courageous truth teller, a principled the fighter of unjust laws practicing civil disobedience, and consistently called out the hypocrisy of allies that prioritize the political comfort of those who want us to just “wait” for equality and justice. Read “Why we can’t wait.”
Yet, he was but a man…with real flaws, fears, despite his faith. He, like many who are often idolized, was not perfect. None of us are.
Perfection is not the point. Community, love, justice, freedom, and equality are. Those are worth fighting for.
What are you doing with your time on this Earth? I hope you see and learn to unplug from The Matrix (of busyness, triviality, and futility). I hope your eyes open to and you prioritize what actually matters…in this life. Honored to be on this timeline with you. What we gonna do?
