Greta Thunberg Instagram – Financial regulators, like Riksbanken, Finansdepartementet and Finansinspektionen must use their power to put in place safeguards to rein in irresponsible bankers before the climate crisis spirals out of control and causes more destruction and harm across the world.
Banks continued loans and investments to dangerous fossil fuels projects are pushing the world into ecological collapse and at the same time threatening financial stability.
Different climate organisations, Reclaim the Future, Fridays For Future and End Fossil Finance, with groups from both Denmark and Norway are joining forces this morning to perform an artistic performance outside the Riksbank’s headquarters to call for tighter rules on banks’ financing of the fossil fuel industry.
According to the Riksbank itself, an important part of its mission is to ‘prevent financial crises by identifying and analysing risks in the financial system’. The Riksbank could have introduced rules against financing the deadly activities of the fossil fuel industry, but have so far chosen not to do so.
