Starting May 1st, Zillow’s cracking down on “pocket listings.” Basically, if a home is marketed anywhere (social media, email, a yard sign, you name it) before hitting the MLS, Zillow will ban it from showing up on their site.
Their pitch? It’s about making the market more “transparent” for buyers. But here’s the tea:
It doesn’t cover everything.
Private listings — like Compass Private Exclusives — still exist outside the MLS. That means homes sold quietly through our platform won’t show up on Zillow or Redfin at all. Unless you’re working with a Compass agent (hi, that’s me), you won’t even know they’re for sale.
Zillow’s just mad they don’t control the narrative anymore. Compass is changing the game with a platform that gives our clients first look access to active, coming soon, and totally off-market properties — homes you won’t find online.
So while Zillow tightens the public playing field, my clients are getting VIP access behind the scenes.
