Nandita Das Instagram – Busan diary- thoughts and experiences I want to not forget. But only after it’s all done!
Last three consecutive years, I’ve been on a jury – Shanghai, El Gouna and this year, Busan. The films and co-jurors were very different and therefore the discussions and interactions. But the experience of being on a jury is always special as people of different nationalities, languages, backgrounds, exposures and talent come together. It is a reminder of the beauty of diversity. Despite or maybe because of it, even the disagreements are an insight into life and varied perspectives on it.
This jury was special. There was an extra open heartedness and warmth. We had every lunch and dinner together. And shared with each other candidly. Some one on one deep conversations, some laughter together, inspiring stories of struggle and hardships and learnings along the way. I used to find those gestures of love a thing of the young people. But in Korea, everyone does them and it feels like they mean it. Love expressed in any form is beautiful, and I found myself doing them too! The schedule was very hectic, but an experience that I will remember for a long time. The food, the people, the films, the conversations. Thank you, @busanfilmfest for the opportunity and honour.
