1. Scanner not working? Don’t pay cash!
As per NHAI rules, if your FASTag has balance but the scanner at the toll gate isn’t working, you’re not required to pay.
👉 If the toll worker still forces you to pay cash, don’t pay.
But if you already did, take a receipt and file a complaint on the NHAI helpline: 1033 or via the NHAI website.
Your toll will be refunded.
2. Live within 20 km of a toll plaza?
You can apply for a Local Resident Exemption Pass which allows you to use that toll road for free.
✅ Take your Aadhaar card and proof of address to that toll plaza.
The pass is linked to your FASTag, and valid for one vehicle only.
3. Belong to the Exempted Category?
You don’t have to pay toll if:
You’re driving a two-wheeler
You’re in an ambulance, fire truck, or police vehicle
4. Use adjacent local roads
Many toll plazas have bypass roads or service lanes for nearby residents.
