A man in Kerala recently faced a credit card skimming scam—his payment was declined twice, but a week later, ₹1 lakh disappeared from his account!
Card skimming fraud is rising fast, with global losses expected to reach $43 billion by 2026! Scammers install hidden devices on ATMs and POS machines to steal card details, clone them, and make unauthorized transactions—often in foreign currencies, making them harder to track.
To protect yourself from such scams, consider the following precautions:
• Use Contactless Payments: Opt for contactless payment methods whenever possible to minimize the risk of card skimming.
• Monitor Transaction Alerts: Always check for SMS or email notifications from your bank regarding transaction statuses, whether successful or declined.
• Report Suspicious Activity: If a transaction is declined and you don’t receive a notification, immediately block your card and report the incident to your bank. Additionally, file a complaint with the Reserve Bank of India’s portal.
