spent most of July off my phone and it showed. missed y’all and our little kind corner of the internet, but i’ve been seeking joy to help with perseverance and more and more I find it isn’t coming to me from social media, but from connection, community, nature, and service.

Reminder that politics is not a team sport! Let’s learn and grow and be open to changing our minds. Changing your mind is a beautiful thing to do and a wonderful sign of epistemic humility! Instead of rushing to defend your opinion, get curious and ask questions. We figure out what we think through debate, discussion, and dissection. Changing your mind doesn’t mean you lose, it means you’re open and committed to learning and growing. Be a pupil, not a judge. And please please please be kind. 🫶🏻
YOU’RE INVITED to my favorite event of the year–Alive Together: Uniting to Prevent Suicide, a run/walk 5k in LA on September 28th (details at my link in bio!). I’ve been thinking a lot about community and how, in scary and unpredictable times like we find ourselves in, connection is the antidote to despair. If I believe anything, it’s that–and I hold my life as proof. I’m a survivor of suicide, and, before that, years of suicidal ideation and self-harm, which started for me around age 10. For a long time, I struggled in silence as so many of us do; we’re silent about the things we’re loneliest about, and then we’re lonelier because of it. Five years ago, I found myself at this event for the first time–as a survivor trying to find reasons to stay. Today, I’m the founder and current Chair of Didi Hirsch’s Next Gen Advisory Council–a group of 17 young professionals passionate about mental health and community care–and a Board Advisor for this amazing organization. AND this is the second year I’ll be co-emceeing the event with the amazing @ericbigger. @didi_hirsch operates the largest suicide prevention crisis line in the country and provides extensive counseling and support services to those who have lost a loved one to suicide or made an attempt themselves. These revolutionary support groups have been modeled internationally, and Didi Hirsch has recently created new groups for first responders after the LA fires and for teens during this unprecedented youth mental health crisis—they are meeting the moment. Register ($35) or donate, and join my team at the link in my bio!

been head down working, to make the unpredictable job of acting in LA possible when i’m not on a show regularly. time away from social media has me missing all of you, our kind corner of the internet. I’m finding i’m not so good at balance – I usually revert to one or the other, all or nothing. but im working on it, because I don’t think that’s ultimately what leads to that feeling of flourishing. and because I don’t want living in the moment to mean im never present here either. so this is all to say, im trying to figure. it’s something im probably overthinking but overthinking it is what makes me me, and learning to move past overthinking is what will make me who im meant to bloom into. quick reminders that your life is not a trend cycle, it’s a summation of all your growing cycles. you’re a garden, not a sales window set up. and that’s a good thing. resilience is a skill, one you can learn.
