… . Watching Stephanie Nur in this interview with Noma Dumezweni and Dariush Kashani were far more than enjoyable, it was heartening and insightful. Stephanie has a way of speaking about her work and things that draw you in completely, she doesn’t simply answer questions, she invites you into her mind and her heart. Every time she speaks about her process, her experiences and the meaning behind her work, you feel the depth of her artistry. Learning how this role quite literally landed on her desk without an audition (just like Lioness) only adds to the awe. It’s truly impressive that roles of this caliber seek her out. What made this interview more special was seeing her beside two icons and towering figures in modern theatre. Sitting between Ms. Noma and Sir Dariush felt like watching a golden child between two proud theatre parents. Their admiration for her was unmistakable. It was endearing to witness how Ms. Noma had such genuine praise for Stephanie not just as an artist but as a person. That kind of acknowledgment from someone of Noma’s stature is not given lightly, it speaks volumes. Then, there’s a humility in Steph that doesn’t diminish her power, it amplifies it. She doesn’t need to prove herself through grand gestures or declarations, because her work speaks eloquently for itself. The dynamic between (@nur.steph) and this cast was beautiful, full of warmth and mutual respect. Everything she shares about the play and her fellow cast comes from a place of sincerity. There’s something powerful and grounding about her presence that it’s impossible not to be drawn to her, even in a room filled with giants. My first play stage debut. Doing this play saved my spirit in a big way. The impact runs deep. This role taught me so much about myself and my craft. The type of creative boot camp that turns you into an athlete. I have deep respect for all the theater actors who work on the stage – it is not for the faint of heart… To go up and do 8 shows a week for over 12 weeks, come rain or shine, regardless of how you feel or what’s going on in your own meager life… This is one of the projects I’m most proud of. The Lucile Lortel has my sweat blood and tears. I have scars to show for it. I gave it my all. Every single night and matinee. I slept like a baby for 5 months bcs my cup was full. On Sundays I stared at the walls, and walked the streets of glorious New York, with a full heart and a skip in my step, tears of pain, of unraveling and fulfillment all the same. Roya is a deep, complex character full of principle and conviction. She’s complex, layered, emotional, funny, innocent, mischievous, guarded but open, angry as hell, but also in love with her country and romantic curiosity.
