Tommy Dorfman Instagram – Last month, @tommy.dorfman journeyed around the streets of lower Manhattan with Impact to chat about her upcoming projects, her career path after “13 Reasons Why,” and her thoughts on the current state of queer cinema.

Dorfman’s very own production company, @goodgirlprod, is one major way that she’s taking the future of queer cinema into her own hands. The company just recently acquired the rights to Torrey Peters’ bestselling “Detransition Baby,” which has become a staple for many queer book clubs.

“I’m interested in telling stories we haven’t seen before, or ones we think we’ve seen, but with people who’ve never been given the screen time,” Dorfman told Impact.

LGBTQ inclusion in mainstream movies has reached a three-year low, according to a recent GLAAD study, but Dorfman’s @goodgirlprod plans on providing more queer and trans creatives with funding and opportunities to tell their own authentic stories.

Despite an increasingly dismal media landscape, Dorfman continues to lead with a hopeful mindset: “I have to have a more optimistic outlook and believe that there will be an artistic resistance.”
