Grew up on Linden Blvd and Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn, NY. Dared to dream beyond the brick buildings and polluted pavements. A childhood colored in curiosity. Teenage years traced with trauma. Uncertainty underscored my tomorrows. The math amounted to murder at sixteen. And yet, here I stand at a different set of coordinates, still a Linden girl, yet in another part of the world. Standing on the business God brokered on my behalf. The plans for my life were written before I took my first breath. The days divinely numbered up to and including my death. On this day though I celebrate the blessing of more life, looking into faces who hold my story in their eyes. I remember when I had no idea who I would be. Then suddenly I am surrounded in a room looking out at me. Gathered and lathered in love at @lindenlosangeles – Through my leaking eyes I could see the plans God had for me all along. Every life standing before me, a brushstroke of my being. Who I am is the culmination of an encounter with each of them at some point along the path purposed and planned for me. A peace washed over me, as the revelation of who’s in control reminds me to relinquish control. The tribe chosen for me, who gathered in the eleventh hour of the eleventh month to celebrate this birthday, I cannot thank you enough! The village of voices that turned your volume high on my hearing through your countless messages, phone calls, videos, flowers, balloons, sacred words…..my heart has exploded. Joy is present.
