At this age, he’s reliant on mom for food and protection, so the daunting task of a dangerous river crossing seems entirely unimportant. It may look like carefree play, but every pounce, stalk, and swat teaches this cub the rules of survival. In these early months, cubs absorb the complex language of pride life, learning how to interact, how to hunt, and how to find their place in the world. It’s a reminder that even play has purpose in the wild—and that every moment is part of a much greater journey.
