Like so many of us Chinese Americans, we grew up around the food but not the recipes.
Our parents cooked by memory. Handful of this, a splash of that because cooking was survival, not something to glamorize and measured in cookbooks.
Now I teach dumpling classes, and I hear the same thing over and over. People want to cook to connect with their culture.
And that actually makes me happy.
Because I started cooking for that same reason.
It’s Chinese. It’s American. It’s care, technique, knowledge, curiosity.
Good food doesn’t fit in one box.
And neither do we 🙂
