Jacinda Ardern Instagram – “It’s been 10 years since the Paris agreement, and now it’s 10 days till COP 30 in Belém.” As I listened to past and present COP President’s speak at the Paris Peace Forum, I thought about all the debates I didn’t expect we’d still be having, and all the goals that are becoming more distant. Yet, in amongst all that, the voice of the Pacific has been powerfully consistent: we must not give up on 1.5, in fact, it is an obligation.
We must address the loss and damage for small island states, and the lack of access to climate finance. We must give both our regions oceans, and indigenous voices, centrality in the climate discussion. I leave for Brazil at the end of this week, and feel humbled to be the COP30 special envoy for Oceania, a role where I am totally committed to amplifying the voice of the region.
