Jessica Pimentel Instagram – One of the reasons I wanted to work on “Don’t Eat The Mangos” at @huntingtontheatre
was getting the opportunity to do technical things that, as an actor, I have never done before. If you’ve seen the show you’ll know our stage is a delightful challenge for the actors – no spoilers please – And secondly, knowing that we would have several performances with ASL interpreters, Open captioning and audio description to make this play as accessible to as many people as possible. And all of it will be happening live. I am so excited!!! It’s really going to be a trip to see how the ASL interpreters get through our family arguments 🤣🤣🤣

“Hola! I am Ivy Vélez, and I am excited to announce an upcoming ASL performance at The Huntington Theater called “Don’t Eat the Mangos.” The story is about three sisters in Puerto Rico that explores tensions, family secrets, rage, humor and cultural conflict. Whew! The ASL team is all Latinx! We are bringing cultural competency with personal experiences and linguistic analysis. I am the Director of Artistic Sign Language. The interpreters are Joe Toledo, who plays Papi; Juana Aguilar, who plays Mami and sister Ismelda, and Jessenia Kolaco who plays sisters Yinoelle and Wicha. Don’t Eat the Mangos is happening at The Huntington Theater Calderwood Pavilion in South End, Boston on Friday, April 18th at 7:30 PM. Come join us and watch the show – your jaw will drop! But remember…DON’T Eat the Mangos!”
