Jessica Pimentel Instagram – I am curently working on lyrics for a musical piece based on the Tibetan death mediations to ease you through the process of death. It is said that there is a stage during the dyng process where things may begin to look scary and you may see what you perceive as monsters everywhere, when in fact they are angels who help us, but our fear blinds us to their true pure nature. Every religion has this class of angel (yes, you do too Christians). Every time an angel shows themself to a human, they tell them not to be scared. They are pretty wild looking, so I get it (Cherubim, Seraphim, 1000 arm Chenrezik, Dukkar. Herukas etc etc etc).
I fell asleep after reading @bob__thurman ‘s commentary where he says that when we get to this point of dying that we shouldn’t be afraid, Instead, it should feel “like meeting an old friend”. This phrase struck me and I woke up to a long locked away childhood memory.
I remember back in the 80’s one of the most BELOVED and popular toys was “MY PET MONSTER”. It was an outrageously strange yet cuddly stuffed animal. They even a made a film and cartoon series about him. Even though he looked “hideous”, he was terribly sweet, kind and fun and he vowed to be our best friend no matter what, forever. That is what the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are. Even if they look strange And frightening to us because they are beyond the scope of what our minds can comprehend, they have vowed to be there for us, forever. It certainly gave me a nice way to think about perception of dealing people and situations we find scary. It’s not what you’re looking at, It’s what you see.
May I be so blessed that when I see the monsters of my projections may I find them as cute as this guy!
May all suffering, which arises from projections which spring forth from the non-exsistant “I”, cease!
